About
The Mystery Society is game of murder, mystery, and mayhem in this game of social deduction inspired by Among Us & Clue. Play with up to 12 friends, find clues, and identify the killer. Or play as the killer and eliminate your friends before they unmask you! Collect items to customize your avatar or trade with other players. Rare items allow you to earn more rewards and may offer a twist on gameplay as well.
Brainchild of Chris Heatherly, product manager and game designer for Club Penguin, Mystery Society is a browser-first experience with voice chat, character customization, live events, and more.
My Contributions
Designed & prototyped special gameplay features for limited-time events
Monitored live gameplay stats and implemented hotfixes for game balance and bugs
Designed and implemented UX animation flows and game "feel" feedbacks
Designed developer-facing and designer-facing features to improve game performance and to speed up design iterations
Implemented and enforced engineering team procedures, guidelines, and documentation for code quality
Refactored large swaths of legacy code to improve scalability, modularity, and performance
My Process
As technical game designer at Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, I worked closely with my team to brainstorm creative gameplay solutions to meet our engagement needs. Leaning on my years of experience as a dedicated engineer, that often meant re-tooling or refactoring entire sections of our game code, as well as prototyping and launching fast features and other updates.
