For the 2021 Global Game Jam, the theme was "Lost and Found".

About
Finders Keepers is an arcade-style game where the player takes control of a retiree spending his afternoons at the beach with a metal detector, looking for treasures left behind while dodging cops who try to catch him in the act.
At the end of each in-game day, the player can sell the treasures they found at a pawn shop and purchase equipment to improve his speed and other abilities.

The game ends when the player is caught and can't pay the fine, or when the player can't afford to pay the daily $100 metal detector rental in the pawn shop. Each day more cops will show up, and they will behave more aggressively. How many days can you last?
Finders Keepers was built in Unity, with several models created in Blender. As per the rules of GGJ, no paid assets were used.
My Contributions
Designed game concept
Coded game in Unity
Created 3D models in Blender for several in-game items such as metal detector
Created several simple 3D animations for character movement and transitions
Designed and implemented all visual effects
Wrote all in-game dialogue and flavor text
My Process
Since this project was for a game jam, I didn't have much time to do a lot of prep or design work. I jotted down some ideas and drawings in my notebook, which became an ad-hoc design document.
Many planned features had to be cut for scope, such as NPCs you could have conversations with on the beach, or an over-arcing narrative that took place over the course of an in-game week.
